Puppet and doll-making workshops are always a lovely way to engage with children and adults alike, creating a bridge between generations through this form of art that speaks to all. Behind the sweet and comfortable mask that puppets offer, participants often dare to explore their own imagination, and feel more comfortable expressing themselves.
A good occasion to experience something new for adults, and an excellent way to spark interest in children.
Workshops' content is flexible, and I would be more than happy to adjust existing workshops to best suit your audience needs, including age range and theme (e.g. for seasonal events).
★ Colour-in / cut-out puppets (age 4 to 12)
Participants will colour-in their own paper puppet, assemble it, and then decorate it to their liking. Puppets come in a wide range of themes, for example animals, book and fairytale characters, historical figures… They are usually easy to make and store, and the final result can be whether simple or very detailed depending on the participants' age and skills.
An example of possible themes:
- Sports (hurling, football...)
- My favourite pets (cat, dog, budgie...)
- Cork's historical figures
★ Make your own puppet
There are two options available for this workshop:
Spoon puppets (age 4 to 12): Spoon puppets are often more suitable for older children, with the possibility to make detailed faces and outfits out of a nice variety of materials.
Finger puppets (age 4 to 8): Participants will create a set of two finger puppets that they can customize to their liking . An accessible workshop for younger children.
★ Make your own Articulated doll (age 6 to 11)
Participants create their own doll from scratch, with a nice variety of colourful and fun materials to choose from. The final doll is articulated, and can be used as a toy once finished.
